Cannon Beach Extended Family Session

It’s the best thing when families get together for a reunion, and I loved getting to photograph this Cannon Beach extended family session during their annual summer reunion. This family traveled from Utah and beyond to gather at the Oregon Coast, and this particular trip was their 20th one together at the coast! This trip was extra special thanks to that little baby girl in the photos. She is the first girl to be born into this side of the family in 81 years! She is one well-loved little girl, but it was clear that every single member of this family is well-loved. They were so much fun to photograph and clearly have fun when they get together.

I’m often asked how I run extended family sessions and this will give you just a little glimpse into what a session includes. I try to always start with the whole entire group. Then we break up into smaller family units. Those families will get photos of everyone together, siblings, couples, and individual photos (if wanted). While one family is taking their turn for photos, the rest of the group is entertaining kids, getting snacks, snuggling together in blankets if it’s chilly, or running around in the sand. The Oregon Coast is my favorite for these types of sessions because there is never a lack of entertainment and gorgeous scenery. I love being able to use a variety of backgrounds and lighting as well. And when people want to dip their toes into the chilly Pacific Ocean, even better!
