Portland Portrait Photographer | Shira in Seattle

Education has always been a huge priority for me in my photography business and I have been fortunate to learn from several talented photographers and speakers over the years. This past fall I traveled from Portland to Seattle for the Click Away conference. It was four days full of learning, exploring, and photographing in the city with a group of fabulous photographers. I was able to take part in several shoot outs and have several more blog posts to share about it. This ONE was a fun engagement session in the city.In the middle of exploring at Pike Place Market one day with a group of ladies, my friend Shannon and I both noticed a gorgeous girl on the sidewalk. She was looking at her phone, but looked up and smiled at us in our big group all carrying around photography equipment. Shannon and I looked at each other and we knew we were both thinking the same thing.  We went back and asked the girl if she would want to meet us another time in the next couple of days for some photos. We exchanged information and I didn't know what, if anything, would come from it. That evening I got a text from the girl, named Shira, and she agreed to meet us back at the market the next morning. These kinds of sessions are often my absolute favorite, with no expectations and no stress about the outcome, just fun and photos. One of my favorite elopements ever was when I happened upon Tony and Lena at the Portland waterfront (see that blog post HERE).Shira, Shannon, and I spent the morning buying flowers at Pike Place Market, walking the streets of Seattle, and just having a fabulous time. At the end of our morning together, we hugged Shira and agreed to keep in touch and meet again another day. We thanked her for going along with our idea and for meeting up with strangers. She then thanked us and said we should go out on a limb more often because it made her day. Since that meeting, I got the kindest email from Shira saying she loves her photos and can't believe that is her in them and that they gave her confidence. While I had the best time photographing her, I love that she felt good about herself in the photos. I plan to do more of these types of sessions, to go out on a limb more often, to be vulnerable, and to have fun in the process.Shira, thank you so much for the fun day in Seattle! You are a beautiful girl, inside and out!Heidi Heaphy Photography is a portrait and wedding photographer in the greater Portland area and the Oregon coast.  Contact me to schedule your own session in the city, at the beach, or anywhere your heart desires.  I am currently booking 2017 weddings, elopements, seniors, and family sessions.
