Oregon Coast Photographer | Covering the Oregon Coast {Vol. 7} Fort Stevens

Fort Stevens State Park is located west of Astoria on the northern Oregon coast. My boys and I first visited this location on a whim during the summer of 2014 with our friend Deanna. I had seen photos of the shipwrecked Peter Iredale which ran ashore in 1906 and it immediately went on the Oregon coast bucket list. We were there in July and even though it was summertime, it was a cold day and I found myself stopping at the Seaside outlet stores for extra sweatshirts which I had accidentally left behind. The shipwreck is an impressive site and fun to explore. There were hundreds of pelicans and other birds close to the shore feeding on fish in the ocean which was fun to watch.We couldn't help but notice that the sand here near the mouth of the Columbia River was a different consistency than the sand at other areas along the coast. This sand was sticky and difficult to remove, especially from ears and mouths and hair that were completely covered in it. That didn't stop my boys from climbing and diving and rolling down the dunes.We returned to Fort Stevens the following month when our family was visiting from Montana. We spent the day climbing sand dunes, playing in the ocean, and investigating the blue velella creatures that had washed ashore by the hundreds.Are you looking for an Oregon coast photographer for your family photos or special event?
