Camping the Oregon Coast {Vol 1} Fort Stevens

At the beginning of 2021, like many other families, we purchased a camping trailer in an effort to travel and adventure more, see new places, and visit old places in a new way. I am always on a quest to explore the Oregon Coast as much as possible, and camping at the Oregon Coast is one of the most fun things we have done as a family. We have visited several different campsites on the coast, as well as other locations in Oregon and Washington. We have plans for more adventures soon and I hope to continue to document them here.

Our first Oregon Coast camping outing was just a quick overnight to Fort Stevens State Park in March 2021. The goal was to go somewhere close for one night, mostly to figure out what we still needed and didn’t need for future trips. More blankets were high on the list for chilly Oregon nights. We brought bikes and rode to the beach both days. There were a couple of different paths to the beach and we tried both the long way and the shorter way. The boys had fun running in the sand near the Peter Iredale shipwreck. It was cold and windy, but we had a great time by the fire at night, cooking oysters, and listening to music by starlight.

We returned to Fort Stevens again in August of 2021 with friends for a longer visit.

Oregon Coast camping in August was a completely different experience at the same campground. It was nice to have warm weather, sunshine, and many different creatures visiting us. The elk would roam throughout the campground and the squirrels were curious and clearly well-fed there.

We also visited Battery Russell historical site and the Fort Stevens historical site. Our family had been to Astoria and Fort Stevens State Park several times in the past, but this was the first time we had explored these sites and it was a great history lesson for all of us.
